How To: Top 10 Free First-Person Shooter Games for Your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch

Top 10 Free First-Person Shooter Games for Your iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch

Whether it's terrorism or brain-hungry zombies you're neutralizing, first-person shooters are an awesome way to immerse yourself within a new world and kill some time with your iPad or iPhone. And with so many games available in this genre, we wanted to show off ten of our absolute favorites.

While all the games in this list are free to download, they also include in-app purchases that help make the game easier. That being said, none of these "freemium" features hindered the overall gameplay — in most cases, it was a lot of fun earning upgrades through play rather than paying for them.

So grab your iPad or iPhone and get ready to play — here's our list of ten (mostly) free FPS games in no particular order.

#1. Sniper 3D Assassin: Shoot to Kill

Sniper 3D is a game that I avidly play and can enjoy without ever paying for a single upgrade. It's essentially a Deer Hunter-like game, only with criminals instead of Bambi. Some of the more exotic guns will require an in-app purchase, but there are enough free options and achievable upgrades to let that slide.

#2. Clear Vision 3

Like Sniper 3D, Clear Vision 3 is an assassin game, but on a minimal scale. Replacing characters with funny stick figures, Clear Vision can be graphic, but in a humorous way. The missions are unique and weapons are fully customizable.

#3. Gun Club 3

Gun Club 3 is sure to tickle even the most discriminating firearm enthusiast's fancy. The game features a vast array of modern firearms that you can collect, upgrade, and use — from Beretta M9 pistols all the way up to AWP sniper rifles. Gun Club 3 brilliantly eliminates graphic violence by focusing on gameplay that simulates being in a gun range for competitive shooting. Don't let the setting fool you though, as it's very action packed with numerous scenarios, like scoot-and-shoot, and zombie hunts that add tremendously to its replay value.

#4. Deer Hunter 2017

It'd be hard to make this list without including this one. Unlike the other shooters on this list, Deer Hunter requires a little more skill, asking you to make lung, heart, or head shots on different occasions. The game also has "Trophy Hunt" levels that require you to hunt exotic, sometimes dangerous animals, like the White Rhino.

#5. Pixel Gun 3D

If you love Minecraft and terminating supernatural beings like ghosts, skeletons, and zombies, then Pixel Gun 3D was made for you. The look of the game is heavily influenced by the stylings and graphics of Minecraft, but the objective is different: Kill all the monsters!

#6. N.O.V.A. 3: Freedom Edition

For an intergalactic, sci-fi action-adventure, look no further than N.O.V.A. 3. The game is packed with intense action, futuristic guns, unique powers — this one seriously looks like it was made for a gaming console and a big screen, but is perfect for a mobile device.

#7. Dead Effect

You wake up in a dark and desolate spacecraft, your shipmates are gone, and zombies are running wild. Dead Effect is essentially the film Aliens, but with the living dead. It's fun, scary, and entertainingly gory. There's also a cool feature that allows you to regain full health by standing in a medical pod, so gameplay is more or less continuous.

#8. Fields of Battle

Fields of Battle is a great alternative if you're searching for something with less gruesome content. Replacing rifles with paintball guns, bullets with paintballs, and blood with paint — it's great for all ages, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's easy because this game relies on longer distant shots and team strategies.

#9. Overkill: Survival

Overkill is great because of its simplicity and ease of gameplay. The game requires you to solely focus on the gun, keeping your character stationary as enemies pop their heads out for you to shoot. In all honesty, it's like one of those old shooting arcade games you might've played while waiting for a movie in the theater's lobby.

#10. Blitz Brigade

For those who need to scratch their Team Fortress 2 itch in mobile form, here's a great alternative. Blitz Brigade is a multiplayer FPS that closely resembles Valve's timeless game. Players can join matches that can go up to a maximum of 6-on-6, depending on the map. There are a total of five character classes can be unlocked through progression, and too many weapons to count that can be purchased and equipped.
