How To: Turn Off Your iPhone's Flashlight Faster in iOS 8 Without Using the Control Center

Turn Off Your iPhone's Flashlight Faster in iOS 8 Without Using the Control Center

I've used the flashlight feature on my iPhone more times than I can count. It's an invaluable tool that's super easy to activate; just pull up the Control Center and hit the flashlight icon. However, turning it off isn't always as easy, especially when you're on the lock screen.

If, as a security measure, you've chosen to disable Control Center access on the lock screen, toggling the flashlight off requires you to unlock the device first. For another example, if you're one of many who has experienced periodic issues swiping the Control Center up on the lock screen, then you might have to unlock the device anyway to get it to work again.

There was a trick in iOS 7 that turns the flashlight off just by tapping the camera icon on the lock screen, but it no longer works in iOS 8. However, there is a trick to turning the flashlight off without the Control Center in iOS 8, and it's very similar.

With your flashlight enabled and your iPhone locked, all you need to do is grab the camera icon on the lock screen, pull it up about halfway, then just drop it back down. The light will turn off due to your camera taking over priority.

If you haven't yet updated to iOS 8, you can still use the camera-tap trick in iOS 7 to turn the flashlight off. Did one of these tricks work for you? Let us know in the comments below.
